Center Space, a project of ACT Northern Michigan, in Partnership with the Petoskey District Library, is hosting “Government 101,” a refresher lecture by Dr. Scott LaDeur, political science professor at North Central Michigan College. LaDeur will cover the division of power between state and federal government and between the branches of government in order to show how policy making occurs and the roles citizens can most effectively play in influencing the process. Scott LaDeur holds a PhD in political science from Northern Illinois University focusing on American politics and international relations. He has held teaching appointments at five institutions and is currently on the faculty of North Central Michigan College. He serves on the Executive Board of the Michigan Political Science Association and is active in research on foreign policy making in the U.S. Congress. He has taught courses on a wide variety of issues including terrorism, elections, political cinema and the rise of China. He and his wife live in Harbor Springs with their 3-year old son.
